Training Meals

Some people I know close to the situation roll their eyes at Sheena when she expresses moderate affection for the food on Via Rail. First class that is. Come on, now.

While it's no Jamie Kennedy, it sure as hell is better than anything encountered on any North American commercial airline in the last 5 years.

Three trips in the last week, had the same menu twice. Went for the cold plate both dinners after a little freshening up with the microwaved hot towels.

Cheese and fruit plate to start (including dried apricot and figs...)
Beef tenderloin on bed of celeraic slaw, with blue cheese and artichokes.
Fresh fruit for dessert

Oh yeah and a digestif.

But it's all just warm up for the inevitable swoon: the Via Rail chocolate. Still thinking about filing an ATIP request to find the manufacturer. (Once Crown Corps are actually covered by ATIP.. that is...)

Hi,

I am an employee of VIA Rail, at HQ in Montreal.

We are all very pleased that you liked our meals. Your post was forwarded to the responsible for meals in first class trains, and to the chief of Marketing planning and communications.

You should think about a top ten list of fvourite restaurants and another for gourmet shops. The Cheese Boutique has been a real find for us!

Sheena, that is THE best looking and sounding meal I've come across in a month. Wow - I'm amazed.

These chocolate cups you adore - are they available in all the cars or just first class?

Fresh Fruit?

Probably your congenial attendant!

Wow, Thanks Via Rail Marketing. Does this kind endorsement now entitle me to 2 chocolates? They never come around with leftovers I notice.

Marky Mark, glad to hear that you have discovered Cheese Boutique at my recommendation. You're at least the 3rd one now. I will henceforth be asking for referral discounts.

A top ten list would be fun, but it is too mood dependent for me. I see equal value to mankind in the Taquito as I do in a truffled foie gras.

Jason: the chocolate is ONLY in first class. Perhaps one day the G8 protesters will do something productive with their time and break down this crushing social barrier.

Sheena - on this we do agree. I always enjoy my sojourns down the London/Trawna corridor because I know that VIA1 will take care of me. Always a lovely breakfast in the monring, and always a lovely dinner in the evening. And my wine glass is NEVER left empty.

Hi again,

I would like to thank you all for your positive comments.

I also had to search on our website a little bit, but I finally have it:
http://www.canadiancalibre.com/

It is the address of our manufacturer for the VIA1 chocolates.

Cheers!
